The Boerne High boys basketball team closed out the first round of district play last Friday at Kerrville Tivy.
When the two Hill Country schools were in the same league several years ago, anything could happen when they played, and that seemed to be the case Friday in Kerrville as they renewed their district rivalry.
The Antlers were winless in 26-5A entering Friday but managed to pull off the 76-60 win over the Greyhounds.
BHS is 2-6 through the first round and has dropped its last three games in 26-5A. The Greyhounds are sitting in seventh place but two teams ahead of them are only two games up and another two are three games ahead with eight to play so there is still time for Boerne to move up in the standings.
Second-round district action began Tuesday with the Hounds hosting Veterans Memorial. Boerne (15-9 overall) is at Smithson Valley Friday.
The Greyhounds were great at the freethrow line against the Antlers and shot 17 for 18 at the line for 94 percent. They also shot it well from 2-point range and were 17 for 33 for 52 points but they struggled from long range and only hit three of 12 3-pointers.
The Greyhounds had three finish in double figures Friday in Kerrville and almost had a fourth. Nic Hernandez led BHS with 14 points, Hank Hendrix scored 12 and Slade Salinas finished with 10, while Noa Sanchez netted 9 points.
Julien Hartman chipped in with 6 points, Casen Hoegemeyer had 5 and Hutson Hendrix scored 4.
Hank Hendrix and Hartman both snagged a team-high 5 rebounds, Sanchez dished out 4 assists and also came up with 4 steals.

Against Wagner, Noa Sanchez led BHS with 13 points, Will Traylor netted 9 points, Casen Hoegemeyer added 8 points, Hank Hendrix finished with 7 points, Slade Salinas recorded 4, Hutson Hendrix scored 2 and Nic Hernandez hit a free throw.
The Greyhounds again struggled from deep and only made one of 10 shots from the 3-point line. They did well at the freethrow line again and were 17 for 26 for 65 percent and shot 43 percent from 2-point range after they went 12 for 28.
