The Lady Greyhound girls basketball team kicked off the second round of district action Tuesday with a road game at Wagner.
BHS almost overcame a 25-point performance by Wagner’s DI signee LA Sneed (Utah Utes), and put up a good fight, but the Lady Hounds came up short to Sneed and the Lady Thunderbirds, 56-46.
Boerne slips to 5-4 in district and is 14-11 overall. They hosted Kerrville Tivy Friday and visit Veterans Memorial Tuesday.
Sneed received some help from Jenae Moore and Nia McBride after Moore scored 14 and McBride tallied 13 as the trio combined for 52 of their 56 points. (Two others scored 2 points each).
Boerne was actually leading at halftime with a strong second quarter. The Lady Hounds were trailing after the first stanza, 13-8, but BHS outscored the T-Birds in the second, 16-6, and held a 24-19 lead at the break.
Wagner doubled up the Lady Hounds in the third quarter, 16-8, and took a 35-32 edge going into the final period.
The Lady Thunderbirds pulled away from there by winning the quarter with a football-like score of 21-14 to get the 10-point win.
Wagner made 11 3-pointers in the game, while Boerne knocked down five from long range and went a perfect 7-for-7 at the freethrow line. Chloe Donnell continues to play well for the Lady Hounds and was the only one in double digits with 14 points. JT Hernandez and Meredith Mcleod both netted 7, Jenna Ruede and Savannah Salinas dropped in 5 points apiece and Addison Saur and Oleyvia Ramos both chipped in with 4 points.
Ruede dished out 5 assists, Salinas snagged 11 rebounds and Saur had a steal.
