BOERNE — Ron Osborne’s romantic comedy, “Seeing Stars In Dixie,” will open the 2025 season at Boerne Community Theatre with it Jan. 17-26 run.
The story is set in Natchez, Mississippi, in May of 1956 when a Hollywood film crew is shooting Raintree County, a southern epic featuring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift among other popular stars.
The gossip in town is that someone from Natchez will land a small role in the movie. So this becomes the “hot topic” at Clemmie’s Tea Room, where the ladies and one gentleman discuss the who and how of making that happen.
Clemmie (played by Carol Sweatmon) is a widow and adores Montgomery Clift and would love to meet him.
Tootie (Elisabeth Steigelman), her friend, owns the local newspaper. Marjorie (Leigh Williams), not so much a friend, arrives with the news about the film stars. And, Jo Beth (Kendall Koym), a weather girl/ beauty queen-wannabe, tries to lend a hand in getting Clemmie ready for an audition.
Robert Moritz is Glease, the gentleman who prefers the company of women.
Director Christine Crowley recalls the underlying theme of the play.
“I was 10 years old when Raintree County came out,” Crowley said. “Our youngest cast member is 25 years old. We had a great time explaining some of the references in the play, often to much laughter.”
Robin Cunningham provides great assistance as assistant director. Kimberly Stoner is stage manager; David Clingan is running lights and sound.
Osborne has written several plays, two of which were performed by BCT in the past “First Baptist At Ivy Gap” and “Welcome Back to Ivy Gap.”
Performances will run Jan 17-19, and 23-26. The Thursday show starts at 7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday curtain times are 8 p.m. The Sunday matinees start at 2:30 p.m.
Ticket prices are $20-24; reservations are encouraged and can be made online at boernetheatre.org or by calling 830-249-9166.
