Boerne High just couldn’t get its offense going Friday afternoon when the boys basketball team hosted New Braunfels in a 26-5A contest.
The Greyhounds were held to 33 points and fell to the Unicorns, 57-33.
BHS slips to 2-4 in district and is 15-6 overall. The Greyhounds still have two more games in the first round of district. They hosted Wagner on Tuesday and visit Kerrville Tivy on Friday.
New Braunfels came out last Friday and hit four 3-pointers in the opening quarter on its way to a 20-7 advantage by the end of the period.
After only scoring 7 points in the opening stanza, the Greyhounds really struggled in the second quarter and only tallied 5 points – all at the free-throw line.
The Unicorns finished the second with 12 points and dropped in two more 3s and took a 20-point lead into halftime, 32-12.
Boerne shot it better in the second half, but didn’t make up any ground. BHS outscored the Unicorns in the third, 10-7 and it was 39-22 going into the final stanza, but NB was able to heat up and tallied 18 in the period, while the Greyhounds scored 11.
Casen Hoegemeyer was consistent and registered at least a point in every quarter on his way to a team-high 13 points.
Hoegemeyer recorded the only made 3s of the game for the Hounds after he hit two of them.
Hutson Hendrix and Noa Sanchez both netted 4 points, Hank Hendrix and Will Traylor chipped in with 3 points apiece, while Slade Salinas, Owen Graban and Julien Hartman all netted 2 points each.
Vs. Pieper
In Boerne’s previous game, the Greyhounds defeated Pieper, 45-42.
Casen Hoegemeyer led the team with 12 points, Hank Hendrix and Nic Hernandez both dropped in 10, Julien Hartman hit for 4, Noa Sanchez scored 3, while Slade Salinas and Hutson Hendrix netted 2 points apiece.
Hank Hendrix also tallied 6 rebounds 5 assists, 3 steals and had a blocked shot, Hoegemeyer grabbed 5 boards, Sanchez dished out 4 assists and Hernandez came up with 3 steals.
