Boerne High closed out the first round of district basketball Friday on the road with a 37-29 victory over New Braunfels.
The Lady Greyhounds are 14-10 overall and 5-3 in district.
Boerne begins the second round of 26-5A action this week. They were at Wagner Tuesday and then host Kerrville Tivy Friday, two teams that defeated the Lady Hounds in the first round.
Through the first round, Boerne is in fourth place at 5-3, behind Pieper (8-0), Wagner (7-1) and Tivy (6-2) and one game ahead of Alamo Heights (4-4).
Boerne jumped on the Unicorns right away and held a 15-6 lead by the end of the first quarter.
NB won the second stanza but only by two points at 11-9 and Boerne’s lead at the halftime break was 24-17.
The second half turned into a defensive battle and the teams were pretty even in the second half and both scored 6 in the third to make it 30-23.
It was about the same in the final period as the Unicorns again tallied 6 points, while the Greyhounds were a point better and finished with 7 in the quarter and won by 8 points.
Meredith Mcleod played all 32 minutes and led the team in scoring with 14 points, Chloe Donnell and JT Hernandez both netted 5, while Jenna Ruede, Savannah Salinas and Oleyvia Ramos dropped in 4 points apiece and Hartlee Menn hit a free throw.
Ramos grabbed 6 rebounds and Mcleod had 5 boards, while Salinas and Donnell dished out 3 assists apiece and Salinas came up with 6 steals and Donnell had 4 steals.
