The Boerne High girls basketball team had its six-game win streak snapped on the final day of 2024 after Pieper defeated the Lady Hounds, 58-51.
Three of those six consecutive wins had come in district play. Wednesday’s contest was a league game and leaves Boerne at 4-3 in 26-5A, while Pieper closes out the first round in first place at 8-0.
BHS is 13-10 overall and resumed district play Friday at New Braunfels to close out the first round. After Friday, the Lady Hounds visit Wagner to begin second-round action.
Against Pieper, the Warriors were up 10-5 after one but Boerne caught them in the second quarter and pulled ahead at 21-20. However, a 9-2 run gave Pieper a 29-23 lead at the halftime break.
The Lady Warriors opened up a 46-30 advantage by late in the third period, but Boerne started hitting from the outside and whittled down the lead.
After knocking down a pair of 3s to close the third, Boerne hit its third straight 3-pointer to start the final stanza, this one from Meredith Mcleod and the 9-0 run had trimmed the Pieper advantage to seven points at 46-39.
Chloe Donnell then hit a couple of baskets in the final quarter and the lead was down to five points at 46-41 and later at 48-43, but that’s as close as the Lady Hounds came to catching the Warriors in the second half.
A Donnell 3 with 10 ticks on the clock made it 56-51 but a couple of free throws by Pieper stretched it to the final margin of 58-51.
Donnell finished with 10 points in the fourth quarter and 16 in the game, Mcleod knocked down three 3s and tallied 14 points in the game, Savannah Salinas and Jenna Ruede both dropped in 7 points, Addison Saur added 5 points and Oleyvia Ramos made a couple of free throws for 2 points.
