The Geneva School of Boerne boys basketball team helped to co-host the Hill Country Classic Holiday Tournament on Monday and Tuesday in Boerne.
The short- handed Eagles made it all the way to the title game before they were defeated by FEAST for the tourney title.
Geneva, who was down two starters, defeated Frassati Catholic and then edged Covenant Christian to close out the first day with a 63-61 overtime win.
The Eagles returned on Tuesday and beat Logos Prep as the game went to a running clock in the second half.
That put the Eagles in the finals against FEAST, who took the tourney title with a 64-42 victory over Geneva.
Along the way, one of the Geneva players, Wyatt Bruss, set a school scoring record after he tallied 47 points in their game with Logos Prep.
This is the third time the Geneva scoring record has been broken this year and it has been done by three different people – all in December.
Colton Lutz set the record on Dec. 10, with 42 points and then three days later on Dec. 13, Maegan Riebel tallied 43 points in a girls game and now Bruss did it this past Tuesday.
Bruss just didn’t miss and was 8 for 8 from the 3-point line in the first half and had 26 points by the break.
Bruss nailed five more 3s in the third and finished the quarter with 21 points for his 47.
Bruss didn’t play much in the fourth quarter since it went to a running clock. He attempted a 3 early in the stanza to try and hit 50 but the shot was off and then he sat out for most of the quarter.
He came back in with about 30 seconds left but didn’t shoot and instead passed to an open teammate who then took a shot.
The Eagles are 21-4 overall and returned to district play Friday at home against Corpus Christi John Paul II. They visit Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Tuesday as they continue league play.
