No fires at Boerne Lake this weekend

In preparation for Easter this Sunday, the city of Boerne Parks and Recreation Department is updating its list of prohibited activities at Boerne City Lake Park.

Effective immediately, no one will be allowed to use a firepit or barbecue pit. The ones permanently installed will be covered to prevent usage.

“Due to the heightened fire danger, we do not want to do anything that will increase the chances of a fire occurring” information from the city of Boerne stated. “In the past month alone, crews from our Boerne Fire Department have responded to 19 calls of brush/grass fires and mutual aid calls.”

Information stated for those who are planning to spend time at the lake, bring prepared foods to enjoy.

The added precaution is in addition to normal park rules that also prohibit glass, confetti and swimming and wading near the boat ramp.

Parks hours this weekend are from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., and it will cost $15 per vehicle to enter on Friday and Saturday and $20 on Sunday. Should the lake reach its capacity, additional vehicles will not be allowed and social media pages will be updated, the city stated.

“We appreciate the public’s understanding as we strive to keep our park visitors, public safety personnel and natural resources safe,” the city’s press release stated.
