City offering Christmas tree disposal

BOERNE — Boerne residents and Boerne Utilities residential customers will have three opportunities to dispose of their live Christmas trees in January.

Jan. 6-10 The first collection period will take place the week of Jan. 6-10, 2025, by crews from the city’s Streets Department. To have your tree picked up, you must call the Customer Care and Billing office at 830-2499511, option 1, no later than Friday, Jan. 3, to be added to the schedule.

This collection is only for residents within the city limits of Boerne.

Jan. 13-17 The second collection will occur during the monthly residential bulk/brush collection by WM. This is available to all Boerne Utilities residential customers who have trash and recycling.

All residents have to do is have the tree by the curb on their regularly scheduled collection days and meet the requirements listed below.

Jan. 27-31 There will be a final collection for city residents conducted by crews from the city’s Streets Department. Again, to have a tree picked up Jan. 27-31, residents must call the Customer Care and Billing office at 830-249-9511, option 1, no later than Friday. Jan. 24, to be added to the schedule.

Again, this collection is only for residents within Boerne city limits.

All trees picked up by city crews will be chipped into mulch for use at various park sites and in public landscape beds.

For all Christmas trees being picked up: 

* Trees eight feet or taller must be cut in two, to a manageable size, and tied/ bundled together as best as possible.

* Tree trunks need to be less than 6 inches in diameter.

* All ornaments, lights, stands, nails and other items must be removed.

No flocked trees will be collected, nor can they be recycled at the county brush site.
