Students’ organization dispenses pairs of shoes to those in need
Just in time to give back during the holiday season, Good for the Sole asks the community to donate shoes for those in need.
The charity organization, started by Noah Patton when he was attending Boerne High School in 2022, has donated to such places as Haven for Hope, Boerne ISD, and other areas in inner city San Antonio.
Patton, a self-proclaimed “sneakerhead” — someone who loves all things sneakers, from the make to the history — said he realized his passion for sneakers could be used to impact a lot of other kids.
“Just this summer, we gave away over 200 pairs of shoes for Boerne Independent School District during their annual Resource Rally,” Patton said. “Then the previous summer, we gave over 100 sneakers to Haven for Hope.”
Fifty of the sneakers even came with hand-painted designs. Donations are collected from bins located at Fabra Elementary, Herff Elementary and Innovista Eye.
After picking up the bins — which is done routinely — Patton, along with his organization partner Tre Hudspeth and younger brother Jude Patton, thoroughly clean and sanitize the shoes before packaging them in plastic bags with branded stickers. Tags are placed on the bags to indicate the shoes size.
Now a freshman at Baylor University, Patton hands the reins to his younger brother, but remains involved in the organization, encouraging the community to keep those in need in mind, especially during the holiday season.
The holidays offer a perfect time to clean house with the influx of gifts we are sure to be grateful for ... and need to make room for.
“We take new to gently used shoes,” Patton said. “This past Thanksgiving, we gave away about 40 pairs of shoes.”
If unable to donate shoes but still feel a desire to help, Good for the Sole sells their own apparel, from T-shirts to hoodies to beanies, all available on their website: gftsole.com.
