Teens and moms team up to help needy through YMSL

BOERNE — Members of the Boerne chapter of the Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) rolled up their sleeves and pitched in to help a local charity meet one of its goals, thereby fulfilling its own community service pledge as well.

YMSL recently wrapped up its year and reflected on its role in helping Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SIHP), a nonprofit organization focused on providing beds to children in need who are otherwise sleeping on the floor or in inadequate conditions.

Members of YMSL are moms and their teenage sons who volunteer together to serve in their local communities during his four years of high school. YMSL offers moms service opportunities and time together with their sons to grow their relationship and to instill in him a heart of service to last a lifetime.

YMSL currently represents more than 27,500 members and young men as part of more than 172 chapters across 22 states.

The Boerne chapter was founded in 2020 and brings young men and their mothers together in meaningful volunteer opportunities that benefit our local community.

Gift service mission was with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. YMSL members logged 266 hours in meet meeting its goal of collecting essential bedding items, including twin-size sheet sets, comforters, beddingin- a-bag, and pillows, to ensure comfort for children dren in need. need In addition to the bedding drive, YMSL members helped build and deliver 31 beds directly to families in need.

The group also donated bed in a sets 27 bed-in-a-bag sets, as well as gloves, earplugs, goggles and snacks for other volunteers, ensuring all were well-equipped and comfortable during their service.
