The Boerne Champion girls basketball team suffered its first district loss Tuesday night when the Lady Chargers were defeated by Alamo Heights, 61-54.
Champion is 12-5 overall and 2-1 in district. They visited Boerne High Saturday in the first-ever meeting between the two BISD schools for a noon game.
The Chargers will also host Pieper Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.
Alamo Heights held an 18-13 lead after one, but the Chargers outscored the Mules in the second, 17-15, and cut into the AH lead by halftime, 33-30.
Things slowed down in the third and neither team made it out of single digits, but the Mules won the quarter, 9-6, and opened up a 42-36 lead.
AH pushed its advantage to double digits in the fourth quarter but the Chargers tried to rally, however the comeback came up short.
The Mules kept the Chargers at bay and took the quarter by a point, 19-18. AH went to the free-throw line 17 times in the final stanza and made enough – 9 FTs to maintain their edge.
Berkley Hart had a strong game for the Mules and finished with 23 points, while Brielle Burdick paced the Chargers with 18 points.
Hailey Winn scored 13 and Jenna Koepke tallied 11 as three Chargers finished in double figures and each of them scored in all four quarters.
Kam Edwards chipped in with 4, Taylor Burk and Addison Darter netted 3 apiece and Savannah Wayment added 2.
