After having their 49-game district win streak snapped, the Boerne High boys basketball started a new win streak Tuesday after they defeated Smithson Valley by a point, 48-47.
The Greyhounds are 10-4 overall and 1-1 in district entering Saturday’s contest with Boerne Champion. The two BISD schools clash in their first-ever meeting Saturday at Charger Gym, 2 p.m., and a good crowd is expected.
After that, the Hounds host Alamo Heights Tuesday as they continue 26-5A action.
Smithson Valley was up by three points late in the second quarter, but the Greyhounds went on a 10-0 spurt to finish the first half after they came up with a few steals that lead to some fastbreak points.
Boerne took a 27-20 lead into the break and then it was back and forth after that the rest of the way.
With time winding down, Noa Sanchez was fouled and made two free throws with seven seconds left for the 48-47 lead.
The Rangers inbounded the ball and took a shot but it went out of bounds, last touched by the Greyhounds.
The officials put .08 on the clock and Smithson Valley tried a lob pass over the top but Cash McPeak swatted it away to secure the 1-point win.
McPeak led the Greyhounds in two categories after he finished with 10 points and 4 assists and was the only Greyhound in double figures.
Nic Hernandez added 9 points, Julien Hartman scored 8, Casen Hoegemeyer finished with 7, Dalton Cunningham and Sanchez both netted 5, while Slade Salinas chipped in with 4 points.
BHS was good at the line and went 15 for 21 at the charity stripe for 71 percent shooting. They were also 12 for 25 from 2-point range for 48 percent.
Hartman led the team on the boards with 7 rebounds, Hartman came up with 4 steals and McPeak and Sanchez both blocked a shot.
