Comfort Deer earn another victory

The Deer basketball team hosted its neighbor, Center Point, on Friday and had quite a fight on their hands before wrestling away a win.

Center Point’s Christina Reyes caught fire early and scored 12 points over the course of the first three quarters, while Comfort point guard Jael Hernandez got into foul trouble and sat out for the better part of the second and all of the third quarter.

CHS freshman Anahi Martinez did a great job off the bench, but in an old-fashioned defensive slobber-knocker, Center Point took a 15-11 lead at the half.

The Deer overtook the Lady Pirates in the third quarter thanks to four straight shots from Alexa Lozano.

Jaelyn Ruelas, who was the Hill Country Nation Player of the Game, drained five 3-pointers, including three in the second half as the Deer pulled away for a 41-29 victory.

With the win, Comfort has claimed its third straight girls basketball win and improved to 5-6 on the season. They hosted Gloria Deo Academy Tuesday as they closed out a four-game homestand.
