FAIR OAKS RANCH — City Council chose Feb. 25 as the date to hold a special election to fill its vacant Place 6 seat.
Applicants can begin filing immediately for the position; filing dates are Dec. 6-26 for the unexpired term, which runs through May 2026.
Former Councilwoman Chesley Muenchow resigned in early November for personal reasons, as well as having moved from within the city limits.
“After much thought and consideration, I am resigning my position,” Muenchow wrote. “I have been fortunate enough to be a part of this amazing team and have thoroughly enjoyed my time doing so.”
A family member’s health problems, “coupled with our move out of the city, has left me less time to devote to preparing for and participating in City Council meetings,” she added.
Muenchow, first elected to her Place 6 post in May 2021, was re-elected with no opposition in May 2023, when the length of terms went from two years to three years.
The Feb. 25 election will be the first of two in 2025. The city’s regularly scheduled election falls on May 3, the first Saturday of the month.
