THE BOOKWORM
NATALIE MORGAN
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Our magical Festival of Trees has created a winter wonderland for the past week. We are so grateful to all the sponsors who have participated this year.
All money raised from auctioning off trees, wreaths and more, will be applied to our Outreach Program. Our outreach coordinator, Leah Mayo, has spearheaded this entire holiday event and she has been wonderfully inventive in her approach to the display.
Please be sure and hurry down to the library on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to get a final viewing of all the items. Santa and his elf will also be on hand for picture-taking opportunities from noon until 4 p.m.
The actual auction takes place online until midnight on Saturday. You may access the bidding link by scanning the QR code of any item in the auction or following Boerne Festival of Trees on Facebook.
Live! at the Library
Our December Live! at the Library features the musical stylings of Steve Garry, who brings the sound of Southwest Americana with an emphasis on the Texas storytelling style of writing.
You will also hear tones of blues, bluegrass and country thrown into the mix. The free concert will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 inside the library, so you don’t have to bring your heaviest parka.
Bookshop hours
Our hardworking volunteers at the Bookshop Under the Windmill are taking a well-deserved break from running their darling shop during the holidays. Their hiatus will take place from Dec. 22-Jan. 1.
The best used bookstore in the Hill Country, operated by the Friends of the Boerne Public Library, is typically open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. All the proceeds are applied to the library, which helps us realize our mission and vision to be the information hub of our community.
Library 2.0
Boerne is growing rapidly, with many new families calling our community home. At the library, we’re committed to growing alongside our community to meet the evolving needs of our residents.
We already introduced a convenient book drop box at the Boerne Police Department at 124 Old San Antonio Road. Now, we’re excited to explore funding avenues to establish a welcoming library presence in Boerne’s newest fire station, currently in the planning stages to be added to the Esperanza subdivision.
The city has graciously invited us to create a cozy library nook in this new facility. We’re dedicated to ensuring access for all our patrons, and we look forward to expanding our services to better serve everyone in our community.
A fond farewell
Carlos Guerrero, who has worked with us for nearly a decade, has let us know he will be retiring Dec. 21.
Guerrero has been a delightful co-worker, who in addition to his regular duties, also kept us in stitches. While we recognize that Carlos has every right to put up his feet and take it easy, we are incredibly sad that he’s leaving us.
Please stop by the in the coming days and wish him well as he begins the newest chapter of his life.
Library Hours
The library will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday. We will also be closed Jan. 1, 2025, for New Year’s Day.
As always, we encourage you to visit our website or use our mobile app, MyLibro, to continue accessing your account and downloading free ebooks and audio books.
