Boerne Champion hosted Clark in a non-district boys basketball game Tuesday before heading to the Texas border to play in Laredo at the Border Olympics.

The Chargers clubbed the Cougars on Tuesday, 46-38, and improved to 8-1 overall. They opened the tourney against Laredo Johnson and Edinburg North on Thursday.

Champion stifled the Cougars early and didn’t allow Clark to score until there was less than a minute left in the opening stanza but by then the Chargers had already scored 14 points.

The Chargers closed out the first quarter with a hustle bucket at the buzzer on an offensive rebound to hold a 16-2 lead and never looked back from there.

Champion only had five players score in the game but it was enough for the win. The Chargers were paced by Baeden Burdick who finished with 12 points, while Kristian Herrera and Gavin Peck both netted 11.

Logan Scott scored 7 and Alex Ross added 5 points.

Scott, Herrera and Burdick all grabbed 4 rebounds each.
