It was slow sledding at first but the Comfort Deer used a combination of pressure defense and timely shooting to pull away from the Junction Lady Eagles Tuesday night.
The Deer won Tuesday’s contest 37-20 and improved to 4-6 this season. They hosted Center Point Friday and then welcome Gloria Deo Academy Tuesday to close out a four-game homestand.
Comfort was in single digits for the first three quarters of Tuesday’s game with 6, 9 and 7 points, but the good news for the Deer is that Junction was as well (2, 7, 4) and Comfort outscored them in each of the stanzas to hold a 22-13 lead at the end of three.
Comfort closed the game with a strong fourth and more than doubled up the Lady Eagles, 15-7, to notch the win.
Jaelyn Ruelas scored a team-high 11 points, including three 3-pointers to give her 10 3-pointers in her last four games after not scoring at all in the first six games.
Jael Hernandez had 9 more steals to give her 43 on the season in 10 games to go with 2 points and 4 assists.
Alexa Lozano tallied 9 points, Tindall Ahrens and Molly Gowan finished with 6 points each and Danielle Ruelas scored 3 points.
Ahrens and Lozano grabbed 6 rebounds apiece, Gowan snagged 5 boards and came up with 5 steals.
