It was an impressive win streak that came to an end Tuesday when the Boerne High boys basketball team finally lost a district game.
Entering Tuesday’s 26-5A opener at Veterans Memorial, the Greyhounds had won 49 straight games in league play but the Patriots were able to stop the streak after they defeated Boerne, 50-21.
The Hounds are 8-4 overall and start district at 0-1. They hosted O’Connor Friday and continue league play Tuesday at home against Smithson Valley.
Prior to the 49-game district win streak, the Greyhounds had a win streak that went for 44 games before they lost a game and then started the new streak. Both streaks covered a span of five seasons.
Basically, they went 93-1 in 10 seasons during that stretch, an insane record at any level.
The shots just didn’t fall for BHS on Tuesday after they only shot 26 percent from the field. Only five Boerne players scored in the game and only one made it out of single digits.
Casen Hoegemeyer was the lone Hound in double figures after he finished with 12 points. Nic Hernandez and Dalton Cunningham both netted 3, Slade Salinas added 2 and Noa Sanchez hit a free throw.
Julien Hartman, Hoegemeyer and Salinas all grabbed 3 rebounds, Hoegemeyer had 2 assists and came up with 2 steals, while Hartman also recorded 2 steals.
Vs. Medina Valley
In last week’s 55-52 win over Medina Valley, Casen Hoegemeyer finished with 21 points, Julien Hartman added 11 and Nic Hernandez netted 10 to make it three Greyhounds in double figures.
Cash McPeak and Slade Salinas both scored 4, Noa Sanchez had 3 and Dalton Cunningham chipped in with 2 points.
Hartman led the team on the boards with 6 rebounds, and also blocked 2 shots, while Sanchez dished out 4 assists and came up with 2 steals.
