Geneva girls handle Harper, boys fall to Antonian, 79-66

The Geneva School of Boerne girls hosted Harper Tuesday night at home in a non-district basketball contest.

After a slow start, the Eagles pulled away with some tough defense and went on to record the 66-47 victory.

Geneva is 8-1 overall and is entered in the Brentwood Christian Tournament this weekend. Up for at the tourney was a game Thursday against Lutheran South Academy.

Maegan Riebel had the hot hand for the Eagles and tallied 26 points after she went 9 for 11 from 2-point range, hit a 3-pointer and made 5 free throws.

Madeline Egbert finished with 11 points after she knocked down three 3s and a 2-pointer, Kyra Petty netted 8 points, Reese Smith scored 6, Grace Detterick and Morgan Howard both chipped in with 4, Payton Boles tallied 3 and Sopris Oglesby had 2.

Petty led the team on the boards with 7 rebounds, Detterick snagged 6 boards, Howard and Riebel dished out 5 assists apiece and Riebel and Petty both came up with 3 steals each.

The Geneva boys were also in action and lost to Antonian and suffered their first setback of the year Tuesday at home.

Antonian won, 79-66, to drop Geneva to 10-1 after the game.

Jake Roberson paced Geneva with 24 points and Wyatt Bruss tallied 23, while Harlen Mangum added 9 and Bryce Hanover scored 7.

The Eagles are entered in the Cypress Christian tournament where they started 1-1 at the tourney.
