SAN ANTONIO - Boerne High had the ball 10 times in Friday's playoff game and scored all 10 times - 9 TDs and 1 field goal - on its way to a 65-50 victory over Corpus Christi Miller (11-3) in the fourth-round 5A-DII contest at the Alamodome.
The Greyhounds (11-3) advanced to the state semifinals and will play next week for the right to play in the state finals for the second time in three seasons.
Both teams scored in every quarter and the Greyhounds only trailed one time after they were behind 7-6 early in the first quarter. After that, the Hounds stayed one or two possessions ahead the rest of the way.
The Greyhounds forced a Miller punt on the Bucs' second possession with a 13-7 lead and then scored for the 20-7 advantange. After that, Miller was forced to play catch-up the rest of the way.
At one point, the Hounds went up 65-43 with less than a minute left but the Bucs were able to hit the 50-point mark with a late score.
Eli Nikolas and Brooks Perez caught two TDs apiece, while Ben Bays hauled in another TD pass from Hank Hendrix, who tossed for 452 yards and 5 TDs. Adam Hicks and Hutson Hendrix ran for 2 TDs each, while Diego Jimenez kicked a 31-yard field goal and made 8 extra points.
Boerne's defense bent but didn't break against the high-powered Miller offense that tallied 7 touchdowns in the game and scored 2 TDs in every quarter except the first where they had one touchdown.
The Greyhound "D" forced that one Miller punt and in the fourth quarter, Jaxon Baize intercepted a Trevor Long pass to turn away the Bucs and set up another Boerne score.
BHS coach Che Hendrix said he knew they were going to have to score a lot because of how potent the Miller offense is.
"We thought we had to score every time we had the ball," he said. "When you watch them, it makes your stomach turn because trying to stop them is hard, nobody has stopped them all year."
