Chargers win shootout with Somerset as teams combine for 18 3- pointers

Boerne Champion went into the Thanksgiving break with a victory after the Chargers hosted and defeated Somerset last Tuesday.

Champion charged past the Bulldogs, 63-56, and is 7-1 overall.

The Chargers hosted Clark Tuesday and then head to Laredo to play in the Border Olympics tournament being held this weekend, Thursday through Saturday.

It was raining 3-pointers last Tuesday in Charger Gym as the squads knocked down nine 3-pointers apiece.

Champion had two in the first, one each from Kristian Herrera and Noa Basco, to help the Chargers take a 14-10 lead at the end of one.

Basco and freshman standout Gavin Peck drained a couple more 3s in the second to help the Chargers tally 17 points in the quarter, while holding Somerset to 11 for the double-digit lead by halftime, 31-21.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs heated up from the outside and hit six of their nine 3s, with three of them coming from Noah Viera, two from Qwanell Nesby and another from Diego Rodriguez.

Champion answered with five 3s in the second half to maintain the lead. The Chargers hit two 3s in the third but were outscored by the Bulldogs in the quarter, 15-11, and the lead was down to 43-36.

In the fourth, the teams traded buckets and both recorded 20 points. They both connected on three 3s apiece in the final stanza.

Bosco led the Chargers with 19 points and had four 3s, Peck netted 17 and hit three 3s, Logan Scott scored 11 and also contributed a long-range shot, Baeden Burdick finished with 7 points, Herrera had a 3 and scored 5 points, while Alex Ross and Nik Georgelos both chipped in with 2 points.

Viera and Nesby paced the Bulldogs with 14 points apiece and David Cadena added 12 points as Viera and Nesby had eight of their nine 3s.
