Before opening district play Tuesday against Veterans Memorial, the Boerne High boys basketball team played a couple of non-district games last week before the Thanksgiving break and split the two.
The Greyhounds were home Tuesday and lost to Wimberley, 64-55, but bounced back the next day to defeat Medina Valley in Castroville, 55-52.
Boerne is 8-3 overall entering district play Tuesday on the road against the Patriots. They are scheduled to play O’Connor Friday in a non-district game.
Friday’s game time will not change and is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., and will take place at the same time as the BHS football game in the Alamodome.
Former district foe Wimberley pulled away with a strong second half. It was tied 27-27 at the half but the Texans made a living at the free-throw line and shot 31 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Wimberley made enough foul shots – 19 – to keep BHS at bay.
Boerne was outscored in the third quarter, 18-7, and was trailing 45-34 and had to start fouling at a certain point in the final stanza, but the Texans were up for the challenge.
Casen Hoegemeyer led Boerne with 17 points, Nic Hernandez dropped in a pair of 3s and finished with 14 points, Julien Harman added 7, Noa Sanchez added 6 points all in the fourth quarter, Dalton Cunningham and Cash McPeak had 4 points apiece, Owen Graban chipped in with 2 and Slade Salinas hit a free throw.
On Tuesday, the Greyhounds headed down to Castroville to take on Medina Valley and defeated the Panthers by three points, 55-52.
