It has been a slow start to district play for the Boerne High girls basketball team.
After dropping its 26-5A opener to Wagner on Nov. 22, the Lady Greyhounds were back on the court last Tuesday to take on Kerrville Tivy in another district game and were tripped up by the Lady Antlers, 48-39.
BHS starts league play at 0-2 and was looking for their first win in 26-5A Tuesday when they hosted Veterans Memorial.
After Tuesday, the Boerne girls play in the Georgetown tournament being held Thursday through Friday.
Tuesday’s game was tight through the first three quarters before the Lady Antlers pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Tivy was up 12-10 after one, but Boerne outscored the Antlers in the second, 12-11, to trail at the break by a point, 23-22.
It was more of the same in the third after they both netted 8 to give Kerrville a one-point lead heading into the final stanza at 31-30.
Tivy finished strong and dropped in 17 points and outscored the Lady Hounds, 17-9, to get the win.
Jenna Ruede led the BHS team with 9 points, Meredith Mcleod added 8, Savannah Salinas scored 6, JT Hernandez netted 5, Addison Saur scored 4, Hartlee Menn chipped in with 3 and Melia Gonzalez and Oleyvia Ramos both scored 2 points.
Saur grabbed 7 rebounds and had a block, while Salinas came up with 3 steals.
