Boerne High drew a tough opponent last Friday to open district play. The Lady Hounds hosted one of the district favorites – Wagner and 5-star recruit and Utah commit LA Sneed.
BHS played the Thunderbirds tough and even held a 25-19 halftime lead, but Wagner rallied in the second half to overtake the Lady Hounds and pull out the 51-43 victory.
Boerne starts district at 0-1 and is 5-5 overall heading into Tuesday’s 26-5A contest at Kerrville Tivy. They host Veterans Memorial on Dec. 3 and then play in the Georgetown Tournament that weekend.
Sneed had a slow start in last Friday’s game and didn’t score in the first quarter, which allowed Boerne to take 13-8 lead.
Sneed started to heat up in the second and tallied 8 in the quarter, but the Lady Hound still outscored the T-Birds, 12-11, for the sixpoint advantage at halftime, 25-19.
Once the second half started, Wagner outscored Boerne in the third 15-6 and flipped the scoreboard in their favor, 34-31. The Thunderbirds closed out the game with a strong fourth quarter and knocked in 17 points to outscored the Lady Hounds in the period, 17-12.
Wagner outscored BHS in the second half, 32-18, and Sneed finished with 23 points in the game, while teammate Nia McBride, who had 7 at the break, dropped in 10 in the second half to finish with 17 in the game.
The Hounds knocked down six 3-pointers in the game and were good at the free-throw line after they went 8 for 8 in foul shots.
Chloe Donnell paced Boerne with 12 points, while Savannah Salinas added 11 points.
Meredith Mcleod netted 7, Addison Saur scored 6, Jenna Ruede chipped in with 4 points and Oleyvia Ramos finished with 3.
Ruede recorded 4 assists and 3 steals, while Mcleod dished out 3 assists and collected 9 rebounds.
