Cooper’s Kingdom brings magic, ‘fantasyland’ entertainment to life

As Boerne resident Michelle Lopez lined up her golf ball with the hole ahead of her and drew back her putter, the loud roar of the sinister orange dragon above her threw her off her game.

“It’s so much fun I cannot believe how realistic it looked. We enjoyed it,” said Lopez, one of a group of five that were among the visitors Nov. 16 to the grand opening of Cooper’s Kingdom, a black-lighted arcade fantasyland wrapped around an 18-hole miniature golf course.

The two-story facility at 129 Old San Antonio Road features the putt-putt course complete with medieval characters and designs, a game room, gamers tables upstairs, and a party room downstairs. 3D images, flashing lights, videos and a surround-sound speaker system await visitors — as do two large roaring dragons.

“King” Scott Cooper admits his input is dwarfed by “Queen” Candice Cooper’s design. “Generally, the whole thing is her; the dragons are me.”

Candice is a descendant of one of the First Families and early settlers of Kendall County, the family having been inducted into the Kendall County First Families in 2015.

“I am a huge fan of all things Harry Potter, all things Lord of The Rings, the whole medieval culture,” Candice said, “and I feel like this place really encompasses all of those things, all in one cool location.”

Scott said the grand opening was a project in the making for several years. “It all started as an idea a few years back. But once we finally secured this location, we put it all together in about six months,” he said.

The Coopers worked through a company that creates the attractions that line the walls and floor in four separate mini-golf playing rooms.

“They have a general layout of the themes, and I added dragons to it,” Scott said.

“We love to take the kids to play mini golf, and we thought all of Boerne would enjoy it, too,” Candice said. “So, we are combining our love for all things medieval and mini golf.”

For an additional fee, golfers can purchase reusable 3D glasses to get the full effect of the elaborately decorated floors, walls and characters.

Cooper’s Kingdom is open noon to 10 p.m. six days a week, closed on Thursdays. They offer monthly memberships, discounts for seniors, military and first responders, and have three different party packs available. They can be reached at 830-331-8555 or on their website, www. coopers-kingdom.com.
