BOERNE — Get ready to do some serious shopping because the 40th Oma’s Christmas Fair is swiftly approaching, scheduled for Dec. 7-8.

Hosted by the Kendall County Fair Association, the two-day indoor event is held rain or shine at the Kendall County Fairgrounds, 1307 River Road in Boerne. The family-oriented craft fair features local and statewide vendors who feature and showcase handcrafted/ handmade merchandise.

This one-stop holiday shopping event draws an average of 2,500 attendees over the two-day event with three buildings of vendors to enhance the shopping experience.

“This is Oma’s 40th year and we are excited and looking forward to this year’s show,” Marilyn Culak, Oma’s Fair coordinator, said. “We have many returning vendors and an abundance of new vendors from Boerne and the local area.

“I am truly amazed each year with the quality of the craftsman ship of our vendors and the uniqueness of their merchandise,” Culak said.

Oma’s hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.

A two-day admission fee is $5 per adult; children 12 and under are free — along with free parking.

Paid admission includes chances to win daily door prizes and a chance to win a free Christmas turkey in a drawing at 4 p.m. on Sunday, as the shopping weekend winds down.

Oma’s offers shoppers an extensive selection of unique handcrafted/hand- made merchandise to select from, almost guaranteeing shoppers will find one-ofa- kind items for everyone on their gift-giving list.

Shoppers have the opportunity to chat with the person (vendor) whose hands made and/or designed the merchandise in front of them. And by shopping Oma’s, attendees are supporting local industry and independent owners.

Oma’s Christmas Fair has its supportive regular vendors that return yearly and also welcomes new vendors.

“There are not many events anymore that feature just handcrafted/ handmade merchandise, and the association has no plans on changing the 40-year-old tradition anytime soon,” Culak said.

“We base and focus our show on our vendors and our shoppers. We need them both to continue Oma’s,” she added.

New this year is “Any Man Can Shop” on Sunday. Any man shopping Oma’s on Sunday with a paid admission will be entered in a drawing for a $100 Home Depot gift card.

There will be a raffle of a $1,000 Visa card and a beautiful handmade quilt will be raffled off as well. Raffle tickets are $10 each for the $1,000 card, and $5 per ticket for the quilt raffle. Tickets are on sale now from any fair director and will be sold during the fair. One does not have to be present to win.

Proceeds from the raffle support the funding of scholarships presented annually from the KCFA.

Santa Land for the children will be located in the New Hall and will feature Santa and his helpers and activities for the children.

On Saturday, from noon until 12:30 p.m. for $5, children can have lunch with Santa. After lunch on Saturday, Santa will be available from 1-3 p.m. for photos and visits with the children. On Sunday, Santa will be available for photos and visits from noon to 2 p.m.

Santa will also be making personal appearances to all three halls to check out the naughty and nice. His mailbox with his North Pole address will be located in the New Hall in Santa Land for letters to Santa.

Oma’s is not only a shopper’s paradise but the concessions menu at Oma’s will satisfy one’s hunger pangs. One’s nose will lead to the food concessions with the smell of homecooked potato soup in the New Hall and Old Hall concession areas.

Other food items will be also available and, for your sweet tooth, a bake sale will be featured along with complementary apple cider. A local food vendor will feature a variety of food items and will set up shop in the Old Hall.

As well as being a great community event, Oma’s also serves as a fundraiser for the Kendall County Fair Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Proceeds/profits from Oma’s are used to further the interest of the association and the improvements of the properties and the grounds of Herff Park, home of the Kendall County Fair Association, Inc.
