Boerne boys pick up road victory

Boerne High continued its non-district boys basketball schedule with a road game Tuesday night in San Antonio against Marshall at Harlan.

The Greyhounds were consistent and scored between 11 to 15 points in each of the four quarters on its way to a 53-49 victory.

BHS is 3- 1 overall and played in the Corpus Christi ISD tournament this weekend. Boerne opened the event with games against San Antonio Lanier and Rio Grande City.

In Tuesday’s game, the Rams were up at the end of one period, 15-13, but the Greyhounds outscored Marshall in the second, 11-8, to take a 24-23 lead into the break.

Things were tight in the second half as well but Boerne won both quarters. The Hounds outscored the Rams in the third by a bucket, 15-13, and held a 39-36 advantage, before winning the final stanza by a point, 14-13.

Casen Hoegemeyer led the team in scoring with 17 points and Julien Hartman added 12 points on 6 of 10 shooting.

Nic Hernandez and Slade Salinas both netted 9 points after Hernandez drained two of the team’s four 3-pointers, while Salinas also had a 3, made both free throws and added a couple of 2-point baskets.

Dalton Cunningham chipped in with 4 points and Noa Sanchez added 2 points.
