Strong second half propels Lady Chargers past Panthers

Boerne Champion was on the road Tuesday to take on the Medina Valley girls basketball team in Castroville.

It was a good trip for the Lady Chargers as the varsity team rolled to a 64-38 victory.

In fact, the Champion program swept all three games on Tuesday as the JV and freshman squads also won, according to coach Jason Sanders.

The Lady Chargers are 8-1 overall and opened district Friday at home against Veterans Memorial. They are scheduled to host Smithson Valley Tuesday, two days before Thanksgiving.

In Tuesday’s road contest, the Eagles were only up by three points at halftime, 31-28, but held the Panthers to just 10 points in the second half, 4 in the third and 6 in the fourth to pull away.

While Medina Valley struggled to score, the Chargers didn’t have that problem and were leading 45-32 at the end of three after they dropped in 14 points in the period.

Champion had its best-scoring quarter in the fourth as they took the stanza, 19-4, to win the second half, 33-10 points.

Hailey Winn paced the Chargers with 21 points, while Addison Darter was feeling it from the outside and was also in double figures with 17 points and knocked down five 3-pointers.

Brielle Burdick chipped in with 8 points, Taylor Burk scored 5, Kam Edwards added 4 and Savannah Wayment hit a 3, while Emma Lee, Abby Sommer and Jenna Koepke all finished with 2 points.
