BOERNE — As the community enters the season of giving, Home Instead is calling on Boerne residents to help brighten the holidays for older adults who may be feeling isolated or alone.
Through the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program, local community members can spread joy by giving a special holiday gift to seniors who might otherwise go without.
“A simple, thoughtful gift can bring immense happiness to an older adult who may not have family around to celebrate with,” said Jeremy Farber, owner of the Home Instead office in Boerne.
“Be a Santa to a Senior is about more than presents, it’s about showing care, love and letting these individuals know they are not forgotten,” Farber said.
This is the first year for the campaign in Boerne. Home Instead has partnered with local nonprofits Kendall County Meals on Wheels, Hill Country Family Services, and Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries to identify seniors in need.
The program aims to share the holiday spirit with 74 local seniors.
Community members can participate by visiting the “Be a Santa to a Senior” trees at Home Instead, 206 Saunders St., suite 101, Barker and Wortman Coffee, inside H-E-B, 420 W. Bandera Road, and Broadway Bank, 1012 S. Main St.
At each location, a tree will feature ornaments containing the name and wish list of an older adult in need, which participants can take to help fulfill their wishes. After shoppers select an ornament and purchase the desired gifts, the gifts will be returned, unwrapped, in a gift bag to the location with the ornament attached.
Ornaments will be available Nov. 20 to Dec. 9 and gifts will be delivered to seniors in time for the holidays.
Since its inception in 2003, Be a Santa to a Senior has mobilized over 65,000 volunteers, provided approximately 2.5 million gifts and made the holidays brighter for more than 750,000 deserving older adults nationwide.
