Longhorns keep Deer in hunt for first win

The Deer basketball team is still in the hunt for its first win of the year after they were tripped up by Harper last Saturday, 54-17.

Comfort slips to 0-3 and traveled to Dilley on Tuesday. After that, the Deer are scheduled to play in the Maverick Classic in Pearsall this weekend.

CHS is still struggling to score this year and fell behind 20-6 in the first quarter against the Longhorns. The Deer didn’t score a point in the second and Harper tallied 15 to take a 35-6 lead into halftime.

Comfort played better in the second half and netted 4 and 7 points in the third and fourth quarters, while the Longhorns added 10 and 9 to win the second half, 19-11.

Alexa Lozano and Danielle Ruelas both dropped in 4 points apiece for the Deer, Tindall Ahrens added 3, while Jael Hernandez, Molly Gowan and Savannah Pizana all chipped in with 2 points.

Lozano and Ahrens grabbed 5 rebounds each, Ahrens came up with 3 steals and three different players dished out 2 assists each.
