Boerne High
Boerne High was entered in the SAISD Girls Invitational Basketball Tournament last weekend and posted a 2-2 mark to finish fourth.
After going 2-0 to start the event, the Lady Hounds lost in the semifinals and then played in the third-place game against Warren on Saturday and dropped that one as well.
Boerne had just faced the Warriors earlier in the week and beaten them, but Warren got a little payback and defeated the Boerne girls in overtime to take third.
Jenna Ruede was named to the all-tournament team, while BHS ends up in fourth and it has been a while since they didn’t win the tournament. They took the last three tourney titles at Alamo Gym in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
The Boerne girls started with a couple of big wins at the tourney after they defeated Harlandale, 52-21, to open the event on Thursday.
On Friday, the Lady Greyhounds beat up Burbank, 59- 34, to advance to the tournament semifinals.
In the semis on Friday, Boerne lost to Sotomayor, 47-42, and slipped to the third-place game on Saturday morning at ACC where they fell to Warren by a point in OT, 60-59.
The Lady Hounds are 4-4 overall and hosted Burbank on Tuesday. They open district play Friday at home against Wagner, which is led by 5-star recruit LA Sneed, who is committed to the Utah Utes.
Coach Amy Ruede said her team is moving in the right direction.
“ We are playing against good competition and gaining valuable experience,” she said. “We have lots of positive plays and the kids are stepping up.”
