Comfort had a much stronger showing in its second district meeting with Blanco but the results were the same after the Lady Panthers defeated the Deer for the second time.
In the first round, Blanco run ruled Comfort 10-0, but on Friday, the Deer battled but still came up short to the Lady Panthers, 4-2.
Comfort slips to 16-5 overall and is 3-3 in district. They play Thursday at Llano.
An error led to Blanco taking a 1-0 lead in the first and a bases-loaded walk in the second pushed the lead to 2-0.
The Lady Panthers created more separation in the fifth with a solo homer and then a double helped push in another run in the inning and Blanco was up 4-0.
Comfort finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Back-to back doubles brought in a run for the Deer and a single in the inning cut the lead in half at 4-2 and there was only one out, but Blanco got out of the inning without giving up any more runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Comfort had runners on the corners at first and third but a fielder’s choice and an infield line drive ended the game.
Comfort outhit the Panthers, 8-7, and had doubles from Tori Hernandez and Madalynn Rodriguez, who both scored. Rodriguez picked up an RBI and also hit a single.
Layla Castro, Emma Wardlaw, Katie Haffner, Hope Van Geffen and Kryssa Zenon all recorded singles.
Emma Wardlaw went the distance in the circle for the Deer and threw 110 pitches. She gave up 7 hits, 2 earned runs, fanned 10 and walked 3.
