Fair Oaks to hold election to replace Muenchow on council

FAIR OAKS RANCH — One seat sits vacant on the Fair Oaks Ranch City Council after Councilwoman Chesley Muenchow resigned from her Place 6 position earlier this month.

Muenchow submitted a letter of resignation Nov. 6 citing personal reasons, with a particular focus on prioritizing the needs of her family, as the reason for her departure.

Mayor Greg Maxton, who announced Muenchow’s resignation at City Council's Nov. 7 meeting, said Muenchow has served with distinction since her election to council in 2021.

“Throughout her tenure, she has represented the residents of Fair Oaks Ranch with a steadfast commitment to the city's priorities, emphasizing fiscal responsibility and transparency,” Maxton said. “Known for her strength, independence and candor, Chesley has been a consistent advocate for the best interests of the community. Her service to the residents, the City Council, and the city of Fair Oaks Ranch has been exceptional.”

In her letter, she also mentioned her family’s relocation from the city in the weeks leading up to her resignation, a move that would require her to resign as well.

“While I accept her resignation with deep regret, I fully respect her decision to prioritize her family. It has been a privilege to serve alongside Councilmember Muenchow, whose presence and contributions will be sincerely missed,” the mayor said.

Council will discuss the process of appointing a new member for the Place 6 seat. Since Muenchow’s term was set to expire in May 2026, council will call for a special election in the coming weeks, anticipated to take place in midto late-February.

“In our discussions, Chesley always challenged me to see things from a fresh perspective, consistently offering clear, direct insights and expressing any concerns with conviction,” Maxton added. “Serving with her has been both a learning experience and a pleasure, as her approach often led to meaningful outcomes for our city.”
