On Nov. 5, the Crestmont Christian Prep boys basketball team from Boerne traveled to IDEA Ewing Halsell and they were joined by the Crestmont girls team.
Nearly three years since their last game, the Lady Warriors are full of new faces and excitement to restart the girls basketball program.
The Lady Warriors kept pace with the Pioneers early, ending the first quarter down, 8-4. But the Pioneers proved to be too much for Crestmont, going up 34-14 by the end of the third period and closing out the game, 43-20.
The bright spots for the Warriors included Paige Hubbard, who logged 12 points and sophomore Kristie Keller who secured 5 rebounds.
The loss starts Crestmont’s girls team at 0-1, but Coach Kayla Rogers and the Warriors are excited for the season and are looking forward to seeing tremendous improvement this year.
Crestmont boys
The Crestmont boys team jumped out to a hot start against the Pioneers, ending the first quarter up 14-4, and they never looked back.
Freshman Peyton Blyth piled up 26 points on 72 percent shooting and snatched 6 steals. Freshman Ezra Dronca added 13 points, helping to extend the lead by 16 points to go up 30-4 at the half.
Freshmen Colten Riebel grabbed 16 rebounds for the Warriors enroute to 60-12 win over the Pioneers.
Following their win last Tuesday, Crestmont’s boys team traveled to Great Hearts Invictus on Nov. 7, for a physical and fast paced game against the Highlanders. It was an all-around team effort for the Warriors, led by Colten Riebel’s double- double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Ezra Dronca dropped in 12 points and Peyton Blyth sunk another 10, helping the Warriors climb out to a 23-13 lead at halftime.
Freshman Luke Oliver aided the defensive effort with 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots, and the Warriors outlasted the Highlanders, 43-23, to help the Crestmont boys team start the season at 2-1.
Crestmont hosted Founder ’s Classical Academy on Nov. 12, and then travels to Great Hearts Western Hills on Nov. 15.
