The early season struggles continued for the Comfort girls basketball as they traveled to Johnson City to take on a veteran Lady Eagles team Tuesday night and fell 59-15.
The Deer slip to 0-2 and played once again without Tindall Ahrens who was out due to illness. Comfort next travels to Harper on Saturday depending on Harper’s volleyball situation.
It was close early in Tuesday’s game with Johnson City leading 6-4 after one, but the Eagles started to pull away in the second after they outscored the Deer, 19-5 for the 25-9 halftime lead.
Comfort struggled in the second half as well and only scored 3 points in the third and fourth quarters, while Johnson City tallied 15 and 19 to put the game away.
Molly Gowan finished with almost half of the team’s points after she scored 7, while Danielle Ruelas netted 4, Jael Hernandez added 3 and Cynthia Leos hit a free throw.
Gowan also led Comfort on the boards with 5 rebounds, Ruelas snagged 4 boards, Hernandez, Gowan and Alexa Lozano all came up with 2 steals and Hernandez dished out 2 assists.
