Tigers edge Chargers in extra-inning game

Dripping Springs rallied to catch the Champion baseball team after the Tigers scored a run in the seventh to tie it and then added another run in the eighth that proved to be the game winner.

Those two late runs by Drip helped them to defeat the Chargers, 6-5.

Champion slips to 11-8 overall and 5-5 in district. They visit Alamo Heights Tuesday and host Veterans Memorial on Thursday.

Champion had a fast start and was up 3-0 in the first, but the Tigers fired back with 2 runs in the second.

The Chargers answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the second for the 5-2 advantage but it didn’t hold.

The Tigers plated single runs in the fourth and fifth and the Champion lead was down to 5-4.

Drip tied it in the top of the seventh with consecutive doubles to make it 5-5.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Chargers had the winning run at third with two outs but the Tigers got out of the inning.

In the eighth, Drip scored another run in the top of the inning for its first lead of the game at 6-5.

In the bottom half of the inning, Champion put one runner on with a walk but there were two outs and the Tigers pitcher ended the game with a strike out.

The Chargers finished with 7 hits, including a double from Jacob Gresham who also scored.

Aidan Pickett scored a run; Ryan Brandon hit 2 singles; Jordan Ballin singled, scored and pushed in 2 runs; Connor Holtorf singled, scored and drove in a run; Jacob Caraway singled and scored and Quinn Grable singled and picked up an RBI.

Karson Kaiser started on the hill and threw 92 pitches before leaving the game. He gave up 2 earned runs, fanned 4 and walked 3.

Rowdy Miller picked up 2 outs, walked a batter and struck out 2, while Aaron Basham finished up on the hill and tossed 3 innings. He yielded 6 hits, 2 runs, 5 Ks and walked a batter.
