Geneva crushes Centurions, will host playoff game

Even though the Geneva School of Boerne had already wrapped up a playoff spot, there was plenty of motivation for the Eagles heading into Friday’s regular-season finale in Corpus Christi.

Geneva was facing C.C. John Paul II and a win against the Centurions guaranteed the Eagles a home playoff game this coming week.

It looks like Geneva will be at home to open the 2024 postseason after the Eagles rolled to a 63-0 win.

Geneva finishes the year at 3-2 in district and 6-4 overall. For playoff information such as opponent, date and time, be sure to look in the Boerne Star.

The Eagles scored three minutes into the game when Noah Brunsvold hauled in a 20-yard TD pass from Bryce Hanover for the quick 7-0 lead and that would be all the points Geneva would need to win.

Hanover tossed two more touchdown passes in the first quarter after Brady Chandler caught both of those scoring strikes to make it 21-0.

Chandler then picked off a JPII pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown to push the lead to 28-0 with the game still in the first quarter.

Chandler later returned a punt 41 yards for a score, and then early in the second, Hanover found Brunsvold on a 20-yard touchdown pass and it was 42-0 after the Parker Eiland extra point.

It basically went to a running clock after that even though it was still in the first half, but Geneva still managed three more touchdowns.

Hanover and Brunsvold hooked up one more time on a 11-yard touchdown pass and it was 49-0 early in the second half.

Freshman Shae McNew entered the game as Geneva’s new signal caller and managed to score on a 59-yard gallop into the end zone early in the fourth quarter.

From there, the Eagles closed it out with freshman Jace Clark returning another interception for a score for the final of 63-0.
