BLANCO — Comfort High closed out its 2024 season with a road trip to face its rival, the Blanco Panthers on Friday night.

Blanco had already wrapped up the district title but was looking to do so with a perfect record and they accomplished that goal by defeating the Bobcats, 40-7.

Blanco ends the regular season at 7-3 and won District 13-3A DII with a 4-0 mark. They’ll begin their postseason next week, while the Bobcats end 2024 at 2-7 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Comfort only played nine games this year since one of their non-district contests was called because of inclement weather.

Comfort received some good news going into Friday after leading rusher Topper Sterling returned to the field after missing last week’s game with an injury.

Sterling scored on a 1-yard plunge for the Bobcats in the first quarter, but Blanco tallied two touchdowns for the 14-7 lead at the end of one.

The bad news for Comfort is that the Sterling TD run and the extra point from Omar Rivera would be their only points of the night.

Blanco went on to tally 19 points in the second quarter for a 33-7 halftime lead.

Things moved pretty quickly in the second half and the Panthers tacked on one more touchdown to open up a 40-7 advantage.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter and it stayed at 40-7 to close out the Bobcat season.

Comfort is young this year and only graduates eight players from the roster. Those eight are Gio Lopez, Judd Lozano, Ashton Hervey, Diego Lozano, Evan Valadez, EJ Hernandez, Sammy Breceda and Cyrus Falcon.
