CELEBRATING THE ARTS
PAULA HORNER
HCCA PRESIDENT
A farewell letter to the Boerne community: “It is with bittersweet feelings that we announce the closing of COSAS after 23 great years.
Over the years we have made so many great friends and developed heartfelt bonds with numerous artists and their families throughout Mexico and Guatemala.
“Visiting and supporting these families and bringing their amazing works of art to our store to share with all of you, is probably the thing we will miss the most. The artists have taught us so much about creativity, family and life. And the adventures we have had and stories we can tell!
“We have managed to travel to almost every corner of Mexico, from remote mountain villages to important cities and major weaving and carving centers in Guatemala.
“We will begin a liquidation sale Nov. 8. Everything in the store will be 30%-35% off. David Marsh furniture will be reduced by 10%. Items on our website that qualify for free shipping will be 20% off. But, if customers are willing to pay for shipping, website customers can also enjoy the deeper discounts.
“We want to thank all of you, our customers, who have supported us over the years and hope that you will take advantage of our liquidation sale as we bring our business to a close.
“It has been a privilege to be able to offer one of the widest collections of fine quality Mexican folk art anywhere. We ask you to share this with friends you think may be interested.”
Bob and Amy Niederhauser COSAS is located at 39360 Interstate 10 West frontage road in Boerne. Details: 830 249-1500, or view items available at: http://www.cosasonline.

Elliff ‘Artist for the Month’ of November
In Chris Elliff’s words in a recent phone interview, “I love to paint!” Elliff has been selected as the Boerne Art League’s “Artist of the Month” for November.
“I began with watercolor at a very young age, then discovered oil very self-satisfying in my early teens,” she said.
“Developing headaches with use of oil paints, I moved to acrylic. I sold some of my paintings, gifted many to friends requesting something custom-created from a favorite photo,” she said. “My preferred method is to paint subject matter I personally choose to paint, but I am always willing to paint for friends, charging only for supplies.”
“In the early 1990s,” she said, “I met an artist living
Chris Elliff, November’s “Artist of the Month.”
Submitted photo in a Colorado community where we had a summer house. I painted with her for the next 20 years. She introduced me to impressionism and abstract art, telling me often that I was too ‘anal’ in my method.
“I have found this new way to express myself so much more fun and rewarding; experimenting with color — exciting. Regardless of the outcome and without a desire to sell my paintings, I have found my joy.”
During October, Elliff’s paintings can be viewed at the following banks along Main Street Boerne: Frost Bank, Texas Heritage Bank, Bank of America, Security State Bank and Trust and Jefferson Bank, as well as The (Kronkosky) Center.
