The Crestmont cross country team’s season culminated at the Texas Association of Independent Athletics Organizations State Meet in Lockhart on Oct. 26.
Under the training instruction of coach Jack White, the Warriors’ efforts were rewarded in Lockhart. Freshman Peyton Blyth dominated the varsity boys division and took first place as an individual runner.
A strong start at the gun had him running the first couple of miles in the top five. His natural talent and tenacious training were on display as he turned up the speed, passing the leading runner with a half mile to go.
Blyth crossed the finish line with a time of 15:55, a full 13 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and 50 seconds faster than his previous 5K personal record.
Boys Basketball
It’s been nearly 21 months since Crestmont’s last high school boys basketball game, and with much excitement, Warrior basketball has begun.
The varsity boys saw their first action on Oct. 28, hosting the Spring Branch Wolf Pack and lost, 68-40.
Led by Coach Rick Onofre, the young Warrior team played with determination against a more seasoned Wolf Pack.
Freshman Luke Oliver logged a double-double and team-leading 13 points and 11 rebounds. He was joined by freshman Colten Reibel who finished with 9 rebounds and 9 points, while freshman Peyton Blyth put up 12 points and also led the defense in steals.
The Warriors closed out a close first quarter down 14-12, but the Wolf Pack exploded for 26 points in the second, taking a 40-17 lead at the half.
The Wolf Pack extended their lead in the third and the Warriors fought back in the fourth quarter, but lost the season opener, 68-40.
Crestmont travels to IDEA Ewing Halsell on Nov. 5, where they will be joined by the Lady Warriors varsity basketball team for their first basketball game in almost three years.
