April brings shower of activities to library

April does, indeed, evoke the spirit of youth. Our winter-weary world awakens, greeting spring with birdsong and blossoms.

So, too, are our spirits in bloom, lifting with joy and nature’s bounty. Our youth department is likewise filled with springtime delights. Stop by soon and enjoy our many springtime programs!

Art-to-Go Bags

Easter is just around the corner, and we have a charming holiday craft for youngsters to take and make. Our bunny masks will add some “hoppy” fun to the holiday. Please note that supplies are limited to one craft per child, first come, first served.

Miss Sunflower Storytime

Saturday, April 23, 10 a.m.

Children of all ages are invited to enjoy a blooming good storytime with Miss Sunflower at Herff Farm that will feature tales, tunes, crafting and a tasty treat. This event will take place on the annual plant sale by the Native Plant Society of Texas. Take a stroll around the farm and purchase some springtime bounties of native plants.

As noted on the website of the society, the mission is to promote research, conservation and utilization of native plants and plant habitats of Texas through education, outreach and example.

More plant fun

Cheryl Hamilton, Texas Master Naturalist, a member of San Antonio Chapter of Native Plant Society of Texas, and founder of the Balcones satellite of the Invaders of Texas, will present “Plants Misbehaving: Native Alternatives.” She will describe plants from other countries that are invading our Texas Hill Country and displacing the native plants upon which our pollinators and wildlife depend.

It will be a hands-on presentation, suitable for all ages. Please bring a “brown bag” lunch and enjoy the presentation.

NEW: Toddler Storytime

Toddler Time for Ages 2 and up, Mondays, 4:30 p.m.

Many working parents or those who have toddlers in preschool during the workday have requested an afternoon storytime. Our youth department team is always happy to hear your requests. We are delighted to add this additional storytime to better serve you. Enjoy tales, tunes and crafting plus an afternoon snack.

NEW: Chess with Charlie

Tuesdays, 4:30 p.m. for grades 4-5.

Whether tweens are new to chess or seasoned players of the game, they will not want to miss a fun afternoon with Charlie Bowden.

Early Bird Time

Tune in to Boerne Radio (KBRN FM 103.9) for a weekly Saturday storytime at a new early bird time of 7:45 a.m. Enjoy a dramatic reading of a quality story suitable for the whole family.
