Boerne Visual Artists group organizes

The idea for another art organization in the Boerne area began a year or so ago.

A few artist friends were talking about how they missed being part of a larger group; hearing about other artists’ art projects; exchanging ideas and information. They missed the energy that was created when they were in the presence of other artists.

So, they gathered up some other artist friends to form a focus group to determine whether there was interest in forming a group, and, if so, what that group might look like.

Here’s what came from that meeting.

The vision was for an organization that was inclusive and welcomed artists and art lovers; operated as a nonprofit; organized programs that benefited artists and community; organized an annual juried charity art show; interacted with other art organizations; and connected and supported a community of people who create and/or appreciate visual arts.

And hence — the Boerne Visual Artists organization was born.

BVA is open to all artists, art enthusiasts and individuals in the Boerne area and Hill Country community who support the mission and goals of BVA and are willing to participate.

An application is required with annual dues of $75. Benefits include participation in a local art community, collaboration with other artists and enthusiasts, members-only artist talks and demos, contribution of ideas and skills that serve our art community, and involvement in the juried annual member art show.

Boerne Visual Artists officers are President Paula Lay, Vice President Nancy Yarbrough, Secretary Amy Hillenbrand, and Treasurer Lleanna Brinsmade.

Meetings are held second Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in the community room of the Patrick Heath Library, 451 N. Main St., its next meeting falling on Nov. 14.
