Geneva softball coach spends summer working at Wrigley Field
Geneva School of Boerne softball coach Tim Millage headed to Chicago at the end of the Eagles’ softball season last spring and spent the rest of the spring and all summer working on the grounds crew at historic Wrigley Field in Chicago. Millage was paid a visit by the Davis family of Boerne, who are obviously Cardinals fans. Geneva School of Boerne softball coach Tim Millage is a man in demand.

Millage, who used to work on the grounds crew at San Antonio Missions games, was contacted by the Chicago Cubs about working on the grounds crew at Wrigley Field last spring.

Millage told the Cubs he was coaching high school softball and they told him to come when he was done, so when the Eagles softball season was over, he headed up to Chicago on June 1 and stayed up there until October.

The Cubs grounds crew also operates the manual scoreboard at Wrigley and Millage said it was something he was allowed to do twice last summer.

Millage said there are about 30 people on the crew and many of them have more than 20 years of experience.

“I’m just a rookie,” Millage said. “They’ve been great to work with.”

Besides working with the Missions for six years from 2016 until 2022, Millage also worked with the St. Louis Cardinals ground crew during their 2022 spring training camp. Millage said he’s been working on baseball fields since he was 12-years-old.

Part of his duties while at Wrigley Field included working the manual scoreboard that the stadium is known for. Submitted photos
