Merle Udell Harris Jr.

Merle Udell Harris Jr.

December 23, 1959 – March 2, 2022

Merle Udell Harris, Jr., age 62, of Boerne, Texas, went to his eternal resting place on March 2, 2022, after an unexpected heart attack at home.
Merle was born December 23, 1959, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Martha and Merle Udell Harris Sr., who preceded him in death. Merle leaves behind his beautiful wife of 24 years, Lisa Kennedy Harris, and three amazing children whom he adored, Carson, 22, and twins Lacey and Dustin, 18.

Merle will be remembered as a kind, caring, and thoughtful man with a warm smile, quick wit and generous spirit.
Merle met Lisa at a company convention in Amelia Island, Florida, where he has stubbornly maintained that Lisa first approached him despite his initial hesitation. Their journey together took them across the country, sharing delightful memories and creating enduring friendships in San Antonio, Dallas, Denver and Phoenix.
Merle worked in the insurance industry for most of his life and was well respected by his peers for his ability both to close a business deal and to liven up a company happy hour.
Merle’s children were his pride and joy. He was adamant that he never missed his sons’ football games or his daughter’s choir and theater performances. Almost as much as he adored his children, Merle loved tailgating. He could often be spotted in the Boerne High School parking lot on Fridays, rowdily cheering on his younger son on the football field. Just hours later, he could again be seen at the University of Texas cheering for the Longhorn football team with his older son.
Merle left a strong impression on his children on the importance of a college education. Carson will complete his master’s degree at the University of Texas this year. Lacey and Dustin will attend the University of Texas and UT-Arlington, respectively. He was so excited to see what they would accomplish as young adults.
A joyful celebration of life will be held at Tapatio Springs Resort in Boerne at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 24. Please bring your favorite Merle stories and memories to share.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Merle’s name or to First Baptist Church of Boerne, the family’s home church.
