The Boerne High football team has rotated between road and home games every week so far this season.

They’ll get a home game this Friday after being on the road last week. They’ll follow that up with a road game in S.A. against McCollum and then are home vs. Kerrville Tivy.

This Friday’s contest against Veterans Memorial kicks off at BISD Stadium, 7 p.m.

Boerne coach Che Hendrix said alternating between road and home games isn’t a big deal. It means they won’t have two in a row at BISD Stadium but he noted that it’s not anything they’re concerned with.

“I hadn’t even noticed, we don’t worry about that kind of stuff,” he said. “You always have to prove you can win on the road. At the same time, it’s great to play at home, we have a great crowd and a great atmosphere but it doesn’t matter where we play.”

The Greyhounds are coming off a 50-33 win over Victoria West. The 50 points they scored last week is the most in one game this season. They did tally 49 against East Central and Harlandale, but 50 is the most.

“We’re improving and getting better and playing our best ball,” Hendrix said. “We’ve improved each week and we played really well Friday in all three phases.”

Part of the reason they scored 50 is because Hutson Hendrix ran for three touchdowns. Hendrix spends the majority of his time on defense but will enter in certain offensive situations.

Coach Hendrix said don’t plan on necessarily seeing Hutson in an increased offensive role after last week’s contest.

His role will stay the same and the coach added that Hutson saw more action offensively because it was what the game situation called for.

“He’s in our heavy packages (or goal line run packages) and they were so explosive that we wanted to run the ball and keep them off the field,” Coach Hendrix said.

Boerne’s trip to Victoria was their longest of the season and Coach Hendrix said they did well with it.

“We talked about it all week with them,” he said. “They played great, we had a lull in there but it wasn’t because we were tired (from the trip) but we picked it up.”

Boerne is 2-1 in district and Veterans Memorial is 1-2. The Greyhounds have defeated Victoria West and Harlandale and the Patriots defeated Harlandale and got beat by Kerrville Tivy and Alamo Heights.

Against the Mules, Veterans Memorial put up a pretty good fight and only lost 37-26.

The Patriots want to run the ball and are trying to find ways to get the rock to their receivers without throwing it so they started implementing more jet sweeps.

“They played their best game of the year Friday against Alamo Heights,” Coach Hendrix said. “They’re doing good things offensively.”

The Greyhounds are doing some good things offensively as well and tallied 623 yards from scrimmage last Friday. They had 309 yards through the air and 267 on the ground.

While Hutson had three rushing TDs near the goal line, Jeffrey Morrison was the workhorse and helped them move the ball.

Morrison finished with 176 ground yards on 35 carries and a score and Ivan Perez added 80 more rushing yards on 15 totes.

Hank Hendrix threw 22 passes and completed 19 of them for 309 yards. Eli Nikolas turned in a strong performance with 177 receiving yards on 13 catches and a TD.

Brooks Perez and Matthew Garrison also scored receiving touchdowns.

Defensively, Hutson Hendrix finished with 12 tackles, while Jake Perez, Brooks Perez and Ryan Hooper all tallied 6 tackles, while Ty Bush, Jaxon Baize and Braden Bays all made 5 stops.

Hendrix had a fumble recovery as well and Jake Perez intercepted a pass.
