The Boerne Champion volleyball team caught its biggest fish of the year last Friday after they reeled in a victory over Pieper to basically tie the Warriors atop the district standings.
The Chargers took last Friday’s match, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 18-25, 18-16.
Champion is 11-2 in district (32-6 overall) with three left heading into Tuesday. They hosted New Braunfels Tuesday in another big match since the Unicorns are in the mix at 10-3. Pieper is 12-2 and has two left. The Warriors haven’t had their second-round bye and that will come on Oct. 29 for them.
In Friday’s match, Champion had four finish in double-digit kills after Brielle Boothe had 14 kills, Taylor Fenton and Ella Coleman added 13 kills each and Briley Wolff netted 12 kills.
Azteca Crawford dropped in 3 aces and tallied 51 assists, Wolff came up with 6 blocks, while Coleman, Cassidy Breuer and Fenton had 3 blocks apiece.
