Three Boerne ISD soccer teams headed to regional tournaments

All three soccer teams that qualified for the playoffs from Boerne ISD are still alive as the postseason shifts to the fourth and fifth rounds or regional tournaments this weekend.

The Lady Chargers play in the Region IV-5A tournament this weekend in Corpus Christi. Champion (18-3-3) faces McAllen (20-7-2) Friday at Cabaniss Field, 4:30 p.m.

Both teams have good defenses and have only given up one goal combined in the postseason.

Champion has won its three matches by a combined score of 13-0 after beating Georgetown, 1-0; Jefferson, 10-0; and Liberty Hill, 2-0.

McAllen has only surrendered one goal in the playoffs and defeated Edcouch-Elsa, 8-0; CC Veterans Memorial, 5-0; and Victoria West, 4-1.

Friday’s winner plays the winner of the Dripping Springs – Gregory-Portland match on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the regional title and a berth in the state tournament.

Boerne High

Both Boerne teams will make the trip down to McAllen for the Region IV-4A tourney.

The Boerne boys (23-2- 1) play Progreso Friday at 4 p.m. BHS is the defending state champ and has beaten Austin Achieve, 7-2; Pleasanton, 5-0; and Austin Eastside Memorial, 4-1, so far in the playoffs.

Progreso has defeated IDEA Riverview, 2-1; London, 1-0; and IDEA Frontier, 1-0.

Friday’s winner plays the winner of the Taylor – Hidalgo match Saturday at 12 p.m. for a berth in the state tourney set for next week.

The Boerne girls (18-3-5) play Friday morning at 10 a.m. against Santa Gertrudis. The winner of that match plays Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against the winner of the Wimberley – Calallen match.

BHS has eliminated Austin Achieve, 9-0; Uvalde, 6-0; and Canyon Lake 2-1, while Santa Gertrudis has knocked off IDEA Edinburg, 6-0; IDEA Riverview, 2-1; and London, 1-0.

BHS girls vs. Santa Gertrudis in McAllen on Friday, 10 a.m.

BHS boys vs Progreso in McAllen on Friday at 4 p.m.

Friday’s winners play in the regional finals on Saturday with berths to the state tournament up for grabs.
