It was homecoming for the Geneva School of Boerne football team Friday night and the Eagles treated its fans to a 36-21 victory overAustin Hill Country Christian.

Geneva had been on the road for four of its last five games and proved there’s no place like home as they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after Bryce Hanover hooked up with Brady Chandler on a 12-yard TD pass.

That was the only score of the first quarter but things started to heat up in the second. Geneva tacked on another touchdown but Hill Country Christian answered with its first score of the game and it was 13-7 with 10:30 left in the second.

Geneva added another touchdown in the second and pushed its lead to 21-7 after the Eagles went for two and converted.

HCC cut into the lead in the third quarter with a touchdown, but the Eagles were able to block the extra point and keep it an 8-point game at 21-13 with 4:02 remaining in the stanza.

Hanover gave Geneva some breathing room early in the fourth with a touchdown run on a 4th and goal from the 6-yard line to make it 28-13 with 11:51 left in the contest.

Another Eagles touchdown extended the advantage to 36-13 after Geneva converted its two-point try, basically putting the game out of reach with a 23-point margin with 5:35 remaining.

HCC went down swinging and tallied the final score of the game but it was too little, too late as the Eagles recorded the 36-13 victory.

Geneva is 2-2 in district and 4-4 overall. The Eagles are home Friday in a non-district game against SanAntonio Compass Rose.

One of Geneva’s district opponents dropped out of the league and left the Eagles scrambling for a game late in the year. They picked up Compass Rose to avoid only playing nine games this year.

After the Rose game, Geneva is off on Nov. 1 and then closes out the regular season in Corpus Christi against John Paul II.
