Charger boys earn district golf title

Boerne Champion competed at the 26-5A district golf tournament at Vaaler Creek Golf Club.

The Charger Navy boys won the district title, while the top Champion girls team came in third. There were two Charger teams entered in both the boys and girls tournaments.

The Champion Navy boys will play at regionals set for Monday – Tuesday, April 18-19 at the Golf Club of Texas.

Only the top two teams advance to regionals.

Boys Results

Champion Navy held off Alamo Heights by five strokes and won the tourney with a 657 (329,328) after the Mules shot a 662 (336,326).

A second Chargers team, Navy White placed fifth with a score of 724 (356,368).

Maximus Cavazos was the individual winner of the tourney after he scored a 159 with rounds of 79 and 80 for the Navy team. Phoenix Guerra shot a 165 for fifth after rounds of 85 and 80, Turner Rey was one spot back in sixth with a 166 after shooting consecutive rounds of 83, Zach Franz posted a 171 with rounds of 86 and 85 for eighth and Aidan Taylor scored a 172 after shooting 82 and 90 to tie for ninth.

For Champion White, Chris Walsh turned in a 176 with rounds of 80 and 96, Jacob Hudiburg scored a 179 with rounds of 91 and 88, Kade Kennedy also carded a 179 after shooting a 92 and 87, Tristan Franz netted a 190 with rounds of 93 and 97 and Zach Perlitz shot a 203 with rounds of 97 and 106.

Varsity Girls

On the girls side, the Champion Navy team finished third with a 691 (338,353) and the Champion White team was fifth after scoring a 762 (378,384).

Alamo Heights Blue won the event with a 635 (305,330) and Heights Gold came in second with a 677 (327).

For Champion Navy, Savannah Dupre led the team with rounds of 78 and 92 for a 170 and was the team’s highest finisher after she was 11th.

Halle Vandersloot shot an 88 and 84 for a 172, Jocelyn Nevarez posted rounds of 87 and 86 for a 173, Caroline Franz shot an 85 and 91 for a 176 and Cate Johnson rounded out the team with rounds of 93 and 92 for a 185.

For Champion White, Camryn Leslie finished with a 184 after rounds of 91 and 93, Tru Love shot a 188 with rounds of 90 and 98, Brooke Castillion finished with a 195 after rounds of 98 and 97, Ariana Chavez scored a 196 and recorded a 99 and 97 and Hanna Lee was in at 200 with rounds of 103 and 97.
